Last week saw Labman install a semi-automated bench top water filtration device at Thames Water Laboratories in Reading. The system filters dirty & final effluent water samples pre-analysis, which have been brought in from the field.

The team at Thames Water initially kicked off investigations into a filtration product after a number of concerns were raised over their current method of filtering samples, through syringe filter discs. Factors including H&S concerns over working so closely with raw sewage, and RSI issues due to filtering many samples in the same manner, as well as significant long term cost benefits of moving away from syringe filters.

After much time spent by Thames Water searching for an ‘off the shelf’ product, it became apparent there was nothing commercially available to fit the company’s requirements. At this point Labman were approached to investigate how feasible the commissioning of a bespoke filtration device was going to be.

Labman were able to tailor a short report and quotation to suit Thames Water’s requirements. Once the order was received, work began on the design phase, working closely with the customer to ensure all the requirements were met. The equipment was then manufactured and tested at Labman’s factory, before being successfully installed at Thames Water’s facility in Reading adding to an existing portfolio of successful systems installed at Thames.
