Biomass Grinding and Dispensing System

Biomass Grinding and Dispensing System

Two high throughput wood grinding and dispensing systems that process a variety of wood tissues for NIRS, genetic and chemical analysis. This custom robot can pick and place vials, attach caps and grind wood samples in 60ml vials.


Biomass preparation system

A bench-mounted system that grinds and dispenses biomass into individual wells within a plate. Operators can load up to 96 2ml input vials and one well plate.

IPB Cryogenic Grinder and Feeder System

The system is capable of grinding and dispensing plant material loaded in 20ml scintillation vials and also 2ml centrifuge tubes. An updated dispense algorithm and powder dispensing hardware allows higher accuracy and throughput.

The University of York Funnel Feeder System

Funnel Feeder System

Developed for The University of York, this system contains an analytical balance with a custom pan designed to take any standard well plate. A funnel mounted on the system axes moves over the wells in a predetermined order allowing the operator to feed plant material into each well.

Large Scale High Throughput Formulation System

Producing 100 pots a day and running for 24 hours a day, this high throughput system creates formulations that typically contain six to seven powders, six viscous liquids and three low viscosity liquids. All additions of materials are performed gravimetrically and measured to 0.1mg.

Michigan State University Grinder and Feeder System

The Michigan State University iWall system was installed as part of the GLBRC (Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Centre). The system takes any freeze-dried plant material, grinds the material into a very fine powder destroying the cell walls and then dispenses 2mg into output vials for analysis. The system is capable of processing 300 plant samples in 24 hours.
