After a summer internship we are sorry to see James go. He is an intelligent and motivated young man and we know he will excel in whatever he chooses to do! This was what he had to say about his time here.

When I found the Labman website I knew immediately that I had to do my summer internship here. I mean you can’t get a much cooler summer internship than working on robots! I wanted a summer internship that would challenge me and allow me to learn as much as possible, and Labman really delivered.

By the end of the first day, I was already given a project to begin work on. Getting hands-on and designing things really is the best way to learn, I thought I was learning a lot at University but at Labman I got to understand the real-world issues and challenges you face when designing electronics and robots. These are issues that you just wouldn’t encounter in the idealised theory of lectures.

Labman has an amazing group of people working here. Everyone is super friendly and approachable and all of them passionate about the work they are doing. They are also a great source of knowledge and support should you need it. If I was stuck on anything or didn’t understand something, I knew that I could find someone at Labman who had encountered a similar issue before and could offer some advice. No one person is an expert in everything, and this is understood here, it’s this collaborative approach of people from a range of backgrounds and expertise that really makes Labman a great place to work.

Labman knows that a work-life balance is important and as such has a whole range of lunchtime and after work activities, you can get involved with. You could join the yoga class on Mondays, something I highly recommend, or work your way to the top of the squash, pool or bouldering leagues, there really is something for everyone here.

I’d encourage anyone with an interest in engineering to apply for an internship here, it’s guaranteed to be challenging and educational but most of all a whole lot of fun!
