Every summer, Labman takes a well-earned break from the world of robots and automation to throw a big summer party. This year, we cranked things up a notch with Colourfest. The theme? You guessed it: colour. And from the moment people arrived, it was clear this was going to be a day to remember.
Things kicked off with the delicious smell of pulled pork in the air, thanks to Labman’s BBQ team, Oliver Young and Co, with some seriously good cooking.
Joe and Josie were on Pimms duty — handing out welcome drinks to get everyone in the mood for a day of fun (and probably a bit of chaos).
Ian and Chloe welcomed everyone to Colourfest with a brilliantly random game called “Ponies or Paint” before everyone headed over to the colour run. Clouds of coloured powder filled the air as people ran through a series of paint blasts. No one came out clean, and that was kind of the point.
Each Labman team had designed and built their own fairground-style game, and the creativity was next level. We had a moving coconut shy that was harder than it looked, a tricky crazy golf course, a brilliant take on “hook-a-duck” — though the ducks weren’t exactly regulation, and so much more!
If that wasn’t enough action, there were giant inflatables, a scavenger hunt and of course the return of the scrapheap challenge, building weird and wonderful creations out of random materials. It was pure Labman energy - inventive, a little bit chaotic, and very entertaining to watch.
Throughout the day, people were getting their faces painted in increasingly bold designs. Whether it was subtle glitter or full-on tiger stripes, everyone embraced the colour theme in their own way.
Making a much-celebrated return to the stage, Robbie and the Near Misses brought the party to life with a set full of crowd-pleasers, proving once again that Labman’s got musical talent as well as engineering brains.
None of it would’ve happened without Chloe and the Labfest team, who organised the entire day down to the smallest detail. From the schedule and food to the colour run and games, they pulled it all together and made sure everyone had an amazing time. Safe to say, they smashed it.
All in all, Colourfest was one for the books. Sun, snacks, laughter, and a whole lot of colour. Until next time!
