Lucy started working at Labman in June 2017, almost 2 years ago.  Lucy came to us with a first class BSc (Hons) in Forensic Science but preferred to be hands on with a curiosity and passion for engineering.

Lucy’s journey

Lucy spent a year learning our systems and getting really involved in the electrical side of engineering and decided she wanted to study further.  In September Lucy signed up for a Higher-Level apprenticeship spending one day a week at Middlesbrough College. Northern Skills Group visit her on site at work to check her progress.  Within the first few months it was apparent Lucy was excelling with reports of her helping others at college on her first lesson!

STEM Ambassador

Alongside studies Lucy is a very active STEM Ambassador. Lucy is frequently involved in school visits, talks at colleges and generally helping to promote engineering to students.  As a result of working with STEM Ambassadors, more than eight in ten teachers report that their students’ awareness of the importance of STEM had increased (89%), as had their knowledge and understanding of STEM, and the students were now more engaged in STEM subjects (83%).

Lucy was recently nominated for the Higher-Level Apprentice of the Year via Northern Skills Group and won!  We are all so very proud of Lucy and the hard work and commitment she continues to show at Labman and in the community.
